The Vikings are coming to invade the preHistorisch Dorp! This year, the largest Viking Festival will host almost 300 Vikings in Eindhoven. For three days the entire village will be transformed into a Viking camp, with artisans, traders and warriors. Immerse yourself in all things Viking- they’re coming with their families and give us a glimpse of what daily life was like some 1,000 years ago. There will be spectacular shows, weapons demonstrations and crafts to admire. Musicians will play authentic instruments, storytellers will share their best sagas and traders will offer fine goods for sale. Enjoy the stories, delight in the wonders to find and come join the table at the Viking dinner with live entertainment (by reservation only). This is an event you don’t want to miss...
Lose yourself in the world of the Vikings with spectacular shows. Twice a day the Vikings put on their combat attire and compete: will they gain glorious victory or be defeated by the strength of their foe? The Vikings will also give demonstrations of the real weapons and armor they used to wear for battle. You’re welcome to join combat training with the Vikings, they’d love to teach you how to survive their harsh lifestyle. Are you brave enough to try?
Do you have a keen eye for Viking treasure? You’re sure to find some among the many market stalls set up throughout the entire village. Toys, weapons, jewelry, furs, leather, clothing, woodwork and snacks: this market is a feast for the senses. Whether you’re looking for quality Viking replicas or looking to explore history, this market caters to all buyers. Many international traders come from far and wide for this large historical Viking Whitsun-Market: don’t miss it!
Musicians and Storytellers
The many musicians attending plan to make sure our Viking Festival turns into a Viking Celebration! Tired from dancing to early medieval music? Take a rest and be spellbound by our storytellers who enchant young and old with the sagas of old and tales of life in the time of the Vikings. Luit van der Tuuk, Dutch Historian and prominent writer of popular science books on the Early Middle Ages will join us on Saturday June 8th to present his new book on winches. A replica of this machine will be present during the presentation.
