National Archeology Days

Archeology in the preHistorisch Dorp

We use what archaeologists learn from excavations to bring the stories in our museum to life. During the National Archeology Days on June 15 and 16, 2024, you will discover the important role that archeology plays in what we know about the past: from the construction of houses to daily activities. Our historic residents would like to take you on a fun and educational time-travel!

Did you know that the basis of the preHistoric Village lies in experimental archaeology? By imitating certain aspects of the past and conducting experiments, we gain insights into how something could have worked in the past. And that is why you often see a craftsman or woman at work in our museum!

Hearing, seeing and doing

During the weekend, a guided tour starts daily at 1:30 PM from the medieval market square. This is the perfect opportunity to learn even more about the history and the museum and to ask all your questions. There are also two puppet shows every day.

Would you like to do things yourself? You can learn how to make a fire without matches, bake bread over the fire or take the opportunity to shoot with a bow and arrow.

Free activity booklet

Are you visiting the preHistorisch Dorp at the weekend? Then you will receive a free activity booklet at the entrance. Here you will find more information about everything you can do in the preHistoric Village: from javelin throwing in prehistory to the scaffold in the Middle Ages. You will also find all kinds of activities and puzzles that tell you more about the past. Stories of historical figures guide you through different eras and the sights and activities in the preHistorisch Dorp.
