Autumn break at the preHistorisch Dorp
This autumn holiday, travel back in time with the preHistorisch Dorp. This open-air museum in Eindhoven lets you experience what life was like in the age of the hunter-gatherers, the time of the first farmers or even that of the Vikings. There’s something new to discover with our historical inhabitants every day. From 14 October until 5 November our museum is the place to be for a historical and adventurous day out!
Living history
You will experience what life was like in the past at the preHistorisch Dorp – from prehistoric times until the late Middle Ages. Here, history comes to life! Learn about the artisans’ secrets and watch or help our villagers.
During the autumn holiday, we offer a wide variety of activities with our historical inhabitants, changing every day. For example:
- Light a fire like a Viking
- Travel by canoe like a hunter
- Write like a medieval monk
- Hunt for prehistoric prey with a real javelin
- Shoot arrows with a bow like Robin Hood
- And much more!
The ArcheoFactory: where finds become stories
De ArcheoFactory is a modern lab at the museum park where you can experience for yourself what you can learn about the past using the latest technologies. Because how does an archaeologist reach a story about the past based on archaeological findings? At the ArcheoFactory, you learn how archaeologists work and how you can make a reconstruction of the past yourself – just like an archaeologist. There’s always a historical inhabitant ready to provide you with more information and explanations, so you can learn all about archaeology!
Every day: puppet show!
There’s a puppet show every day at noon and 4 PM. You will find the hand-painted puppet theatre at the medieval market square. The show is hosted by one of our historical inhabitants and every show is different. Take a seat in one of the benches and enjoy the show!
Tours
Would you like to know on which archaeological data we based our historical reconstructions? Would you like to find out what differences there are between hunters and farmers? Or who used to sleep together in the same house? If you do, join our free tour. This is conducted by one of our time guides every day at 1 PM. These tours have been developed specifically for adults. We gather at the market square.
Is the timing of the tour inconvenient for you? You can also take a tour of the museum by yourself using the free museum guide or audio tour. And if you have any questions along the way, you can ask our time guides. Or you can book a private tour for your group.
