There's nothing quite like the Middle Ages

They will gather from near and far: medieval folk! Get ready for our Middeleeuwse Jaarmarkt (Annual Medieval Market) on August 23th and 24th. But that's not all: enjoy a variety of entertainment, including knights, jugglers, musicians, storytellers, a jester, and other interesting people from the Middle Ages!

Annual market

A medieval annual market was a major event, drawing people from across the region to the city to trade goods, meet new faces and enjoy the festivities. Countless colourful stalls offered a variety of wares, including textiles, spices, handmade jewelry and fresh produce from local farmers. Skilled artisans such as blacksmiths, potters, and tanners demonstrated their crafts, while musicians and acrobats entertained the crowds. Now, you can experience this vibrant atmosphere for two whole days at the preHistorisch Dorp in Eindhoven.

Mesmerizing tunes

At the Annual Medieval Market, our musicians will set the perfect atmosphere. For two days, historical residents will play authentic instruments and sing traditional songs, just as they did in the past. In the past. Medieval musicians didn't just bring music, they also carried stories from faraway cities. Their songs could be about anything: courtly love, merrymaking, chivalry, hard work or even everyday life. A unique performance is guaranteed!

Buildings from the Middle Ages

The preHistorisch Dorp is home to various buildings from the Middle Ages. As you step into the museum, you'll find yourself transported back in time, surrounded by the growing urbanization of the late Middle Ages. During this period, people began living closer together: a practical choice, as the city walls provided protection from marauding bands!

From the Tolhuys, our entrance building, historically the place where people paid tolls, you'll walk straight onto the market square where several historic buildings await. Medieval city dwellers earned their living as craftsmen: potters, furniture makers, beer brewers, tanners, bakers, and weavers, to name a few. You can even witness some of these trades in action.

For example, our craft house is designed as both a weaver's and carpenter's workshop, wehere living and working spaces blend together. Meanwhile, the forge on the market square is the place for those fascinated by the power of fire: watch as the blacksmith skillfully shapes metal into beautiful tools and utensils.

Do you like working with your hands? Then visit the potter's house and try your hand at the potter's wheel. If you feel hungry, stop by Den Bonten Os, the local inn, where you can enjoy a modern snack while admiring its stunning stained glass windows.

Our historic residents look forward to welcoming you to the Middle Ages!
