Regular weekday

On an exploration trip

Scout the museum’s small trails smelling smouldering fires and entering the houses, farms, and workshops. The residents you meet along the way will tell you all you want to know about their era. You can also enjoy all kinds of activities without the help of an inhabitant. And if you would like a little refreshment after all of this exploration, you can find this at the Inn Den Bonten Os at the medieval market square. It’s open daily to quench your thirst and satisfy your appetite.

Valuable workshops

Sometimes a group of children is here, participating in an educational program during the morning and early afternoon. Feel free to have a look, but please don’t disturb the program.

It’s usually quiet in the museum starting from 2 PM. Every weekday, you can enjoy an interesting tour at 2 PM and at 3 PM there’s a different artisanal workshop. These workshops are a more extensive version of the regular activities you can do at the museum. They’re a valuable way to learn more about a craft and see how the techniques were applied exactly.

Extra tips

When you visit the museum on a weekday, you’ll receive our museum guide free of charge at the reception desk. This booklet helps you discover a wealth of information about history. Let it guide you through the many transitions experienced by the Dutch, from prehistory to the late Middle Ages. You can also choose the free audio tour, which leads you past the many surprising spots in our museum. These complimentary extras highlight special places you might otherwise overlook. So during your visit, be sure to spend some time with the museum guide or the audio tour.

Throughout the museum, you’ll also find various information panels that explain the different time periods. They are not placed at every building, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in another world. Curious about the social classes of medieval society? Then visit the Medieval Labyrinth in the center of the museum.

Want to be sure you haven’t missed anything in the museum? Then follow the photo scavenger hunt: fun for young and old alike! With this hunt, you’ll search for the most beautiful and entertaining details of the preHistorisch Dorp. You can purchase the photo scavenger hunt at the ticket desk during your visit for € 3.
