Pottery weekend at the preHistorisch Dorp

Pottery weekend at the preHistorisch Dorp

Experience the past

The preHistorisch Dorp really comes to life during the weekends! Visit the museum on a Saturday or Sunday to let us surprise you with all you can discover here. One day you’ll meet a Viking, another day the hunter’s tent is inhabited by a real hunter. At Eindhoven’s best open-air museum, no day is the same!

Do you want to get your hands dirty? Then you should definitely come by this weekend, when our museum is dedicated to pottery making. Residents from different time periods show how they used this age-old craft to make objects for everyday use, such as jars, cooking pots, cups, plates and bowls. Walk around and discover how potters worked with clay in different time periods.

Experience the past

There is more...

There’s much more to discover besides the pottery activities. Our historical inhabitants will take you on a surprising trip back in time. Enjoy their stories, stroll by the farmsteads, and see for yourself what used to happen there in the past. Even real history buffs can always discover something new here.

During the weekends, there’s a tour with a guide every day at 1:30 PM starting at the medieval market square. This is the perfect opportunity to learn more about history and the museum and ask all of your questions. There are also two puppet shows every day.

Do you like to get active yourself? You can! We can, for example, teach you to make fire without matches, bake bread over a fire, or practice archery.

Are you in need of a refreshment during or after your time travel? The  Inn Den Bonten Os, located on the market square, is open daily to quench your thirst and satisfy your hunger.

Take on a journey of discovery

You can let our historical inhabitants tell you more, but you can also go on a journey of discovery by yourself! If you would like more in-depth knowledge, get a free audio tour or museum guide at the reception desk. They are also available in English, and they will guide you through the many astonishing sites in our museum, as well as teach you all about the various ages in Dutch history, from prehistoric times up to the late Middle Ages. This way you will become a real connoisseur of Dutch history.

In our open-air museum, you will experience the past: you will get straw in your hair, smell like smoke from a wood fire and get muddy shoes. But don’t worry, you can always freshen up at the lavatory.

Our history really comes to life during the weekends. Come and have a look at our open-air museum and find out for yourself!
